Low vision is defined as irreversible and medically uncorrectable visual impairment that results in disability and decreased visual performance consequently interfering with “activities of daily living.” Low vision is recognized as a growing problem among older adults.
Occupational therapists are grounded in an understanding of human capacity and disability. This knowledge, combined with their experience and in assistive technology and activity analysis, makes them a natural fit in low vision rehabilitation. They use evidence-based compensatory strategies to help mitigate the effects of low vision.
