Why did you choose a career path in senior healthcare?
Growing up, my grandparents and other retired seniors were my babysitters. So, since I can remember, my best friends were always over the age of 60. As a small child, I knew I wanted a career working with those who had taken care of me. I loved their stories of times past, their antiques, their strong sense of self and their kindness towards me. Working for them now is an honor.
Name your best work moment.
One of my fondest moments is when my husband and I had our wedding ceremony at the nursing home where I worked. It was a memorable occasion and for years, even some of my more forgetful patients would remind me of how much fun they had at my wedding and how wonderful of a dancer my husband was (they were being way too kind). We talked about their weddings and how much they loved being at mine. As a healthcare worker, you don’t just work in healthcare, you live healthcare.
What do you look most forward to at work?
I look forward to working with other professionals who help to keep seniors and those recovering from surgeries or illness safe at home. The team at Capital Health Home Care are among the most dedicated and compassionate people I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. It’s great to know that we are doing good in the world.
Name some of your favorite things to do outside of work.
I love serving as a wedding officiant in my spare time. Being a part of a couple’s big day helps keep my spirit happy.
